This Weekend in Nerdlesque: April 5th, 2013
Ruby Solitaire impressed many at the Great Burlesque Exposition last weekend with her Dr. Who inspired classic burlesque routine as a Dalek. The Shanghai Pearl tweeted “A stunning #Dalek strip just happened!!” and followed with how she had to double-check it was indeed a Dalek and wrote, “One of my most favorite things is a beautiful strip out of an (amazing) and unconventional costume!” Congrats to the many performers who are finding ways to take their nerdy referential acts beyond the niche shows to more general audiences. The Weekend in Nerdlesque: March 29th
The highlight of my week was the Kings show in Seattle produced the Paula the Swedish Housewife. It featured the best male burlesque performers in the world on one stage for the first time. A Brief Nerdlesque Moment from Emerald City Comicon
This weekend was a big win for Seattle burlesque and nerdlesque. Let me explain…Mr. Wil Wheaton attended a comic book themed show at Emerald City Comicon and seemingly loved every second. If you don’t know who Wil Wheaton is, that’s okay. But, for some of us, it’s kinda of like telling non-burlesque folks “You don’t know who Dita Von Teese is?” But I digress. Professor of Nerdlesque heading to ECCC
I’ve scheduled a clandestine exchange of a 3-day pass to Emerald City Comicon and finally sitting down to figure out my strategy. I’m a newbie comic reader but an old school fangirl. I’ve headed to ECCC for the last few years and my experiences have been mostly very good. Once GeekGirlCon came on the scene, my opinion overall has evolved a bit. It’s amazing how different the two feel, for all the obvious reasons. I definitely enjoy attending both and will continue to do so. Yet, GGC…you own my heart. Phasers replace feather boas and D20s replace pastie tassels in this new and exciting trend of modern burlesque.
