This Week in Nerdlesque: The Blur

Poster for the Plan 9 Burlesque show "The Uncanny Sex-Men"Have you ever been trapped in an endless whirlwind of awesome? A week in which the conversations start to blur together and you forget what day it is? Even typing these words right now is difficult. I’m exhausted.

I think I’m in Chicago. I think I’m spending time with the most wonderful and friendly burlesque nerds ever. I think I’m going to sleep for five days in a row when I finally return home.

I realize I’m sacrificing a lot to research this book. I missed a momentous wedding of two fantastic ladies this weekend. I missed my husband’s birthday. I am missing our anniversary in a few weeks. I’m missing time spent with friends and family. Yet, the necessary trade off is the conversations with new friends. I’m honestly making extremely valuable discoveries and connections of logic. Maybe this project isn’t such a terrible idea after all. Chicago burlesque, you are a warm and welcoming community.

Endless thanks to Dawn Fredrick, Josh Roberts, Bazuka Joe, Ray Gunn, Michelle L’Amour, MsPixy, Red Hot Annie, Stella Cheeks, Juicy Lucy and all the ladies of Gorilla Tango Burlesque, Legs Calibur, Marie Curiosity and everyone in Plan 9 Burlesque plus the random fabulous people who I met along the way. In regards to nerdlesque, I’ve already seen Kitana vs Chun Lee, Angry Birds, Resident Evil, PacMan, digital love, Lion-O, Carmen Sandiego, Gozer, a tardis belly dance, plus A Nude Hope: A Star Wars Burlesque and The Empire Brings Sexy Back: A Star Wars Burlesque. Tonight I’m off to see the Uncanny Sex-Men & The Rise of The Nude Gods. I’ve been to C2E2, two after parties and three burlesque shows. I met with my literary agent in person for the first time. I walked miles and miles. I only got physical lost once. I bought Jareth inspired perfume (it smells like David Bowie’s naughty bits), a t-shirt that says “Strong Female Character” and a book of poems about video games. I used the wrong word at six different times and called at least three people by the wrong name.

What day is it again? stiletto
