Little nerds grow up to be big nerds. Or, this young redhead in Wonder Woman Underoos did, indeed, evolve into a different kind of super hero. The kind that tries to be the champion of the other not-so-little girls, in similar states of Underoo undress, and their strange obsessions.
With this in mind, I am appearing on stage this weekend is a very special fundraiser for Sinner Saint Burlesque called Very Special Feelings. Here is the basic description:
Back by popular demand, we bring you journal readings, stories and other cries from our naive and impressionable youths. To make an intimate and cheek reddening evening even more bizarre, the ladies of Sinner Saint Burlesque will tantalize our beloved friends and fans with kamikaze style improvised burlesque! We’ll be moved by the moment…these will be acts NEVER done before and that will NEVER be done again…We’ll be acting out our childhood wisdom. That’s right; a mash up of Salon of Shame style readings, improvised interpretive dance, and…stripping! All at once! Want to join in the fun? Bring your own old poignant or embarrassing journals and join us for what’s bound to be a revealing evening!
So, in the spirit of nerdlesque and questionable choices made in youth, I will bring with me…not a journal…but a scrapbook. A tome. A collection of evidence of my preteen pop culture obsession. It’s definitely not a Wonder Woman obsession. It will certainly explain a lot.
I’ll be joined on stage by an amazing performer, a power point presentation, a shameless show and tell, and maybe some scotch. Come on out and help us send SSB on tour.
