When To Take a Burlesque Break

When you’ve done something you are so very proud of that you can’t imagine it getting any better.

When you spend more time on facebook worrying about who will see your work than you do making your work.

When you start to see humans as spreadsheets.

When festivals applications, forums, and the successes of others start to feel more important than dancing naked to your new favorite song in your living room.

When The X-Files is back on television and you are very distracted. Plus, you know that comebacks are all the rage.

When you start to feel like a rat on a sinking ship, knowing you will start defending what you have made so fiercely that you will attack those who helped you get there.

When you realize you are no longer able to see the forest because you’ve been putting glitter and googly eyes on the trees for too long.

When your job or your family or something else just as valuable to you needs to take priority for a while.

When you almost forget to vote.

When you start accidentally calling all your burlesque friends by their real names, as if your subconscious brain has already made the leap to tell you “be a muggle for a while, gurl.”

When you realize that even when you are “muggleling” you are still a special weirdo and you will share the point of view in everything you do, from boardroom to baby play-dates.

When you want the time to just listen for a while.

When you have made the decision and you wake up giggling for no good reason. Then make frenchtoast. And watch The X-Files.

When you know there is some great scheme brewing and you want to be rested for when it strikes.
